Having been subjected to 'gay comedies' in the past I must confess I
wasn't much looking forward to "Loose Cannons", a 'comedy' about two gay brothers in a well-off Italian family and the effect that one of them coming out has on the other and the family in general but this is funny and surprisingly likeable and it handles the fall-out with a great deal of affection and originality. The gay cliches in this film are few indeed, (and it may have the most original suicide in any movie). Good performances, too, from everyone involved and first-rate direction, in the Sirkian mould, from Ferzan Ozpetek, even if the title doesn't quite reflect the seriousness of the comedy in hand.
The films reviewed here represent those I have liked or loved over the years. It is not a list of my favourite films but all the films reviewed here are worth seeing and worth seeking out. I know many of you won't agree with me on a lot of these but hopefully you will grant me, and the films that appear here, our place in the sun. Thanks for reading.
