The films reviewed here represent those I have liked or loved over the years. It is not a list of my favourite films but all the films reviewed here are worth seeing and worth seeking out. I know many of you won't agree with me on a lot of these but hopefully you will grant me, and the films that appear here, our place in the sun. Thanks for reading.

IT FOLLOWS
Already festooned with critical plaudits, "It Follows" is certainly a horror movie that's a cut above the rest though I'm still not quite sure if it's as good as people have said. The story is basically silly and like "Stranger by the Lake", had it been made twenty years earlier, might have served as a metaphor for AIDS. (Perhaps our complacency about AIDS today and sexual promiscuity in general is fuelling this new breed of thriller). Here the 'monster' is a mysterious 'it' or 'who', a demon of sorts that is passed from person to person only through sex; once you catch 'it', it's out to get you.
What distinguishes David Robert Mitchell's movie is its style. Mitchell certainly knows how to turn up the frighteners and brilliant camerawork, sound recording and best of all Disasterpeace;s terrific score all add to the film's sense of unease, not to mention getting us to jump out of our seats on several occasions. Like "The Babadook" this is a sophisticated horror movie that knows exactly what it's doing, The only thing that lets it down is the plot which is no better or worse than any haunted house movie of the last seventy or eighty years.,
