Melvin Van Peebles combines Blaxploitation with Sexploitation in this psychedelic early seventies cult movie that is now considered a classic of Black Cinema. Unfortunately Van Peebles doesn't display any real talent either behind or in front of the camera so what might have seemed groundbreaking at the time now just looks amateurish and tasteless.
Of course, I know you have to view the film in context and look beyond what's up there on the screen to the film's genesis but that's very difficult when so much of what's on the screen is so hard to watch. (There's no real narrative structure and the acting by everyone is atrocious). Little wonder that Van Peebles never made it into the mainstream.
